Problems with Floppy Disks
The use of floppy disks is not recommended.
When saving work you should save to your secure personal save space on the network, Drive X:. This area is accessible to you from any school computer, Mac or Windows.
If a teacher is only needing to share a document with one other person or a few people, the best solution we have is for them to simply attach the document(s) to an email message. This may also be a good solution for teachers needing to transfer files home. They can simply email files to their home account.
Floppy disks are unreliable and outdated. About 25% of the computers being sold today don't even have floppy disk drives. Floppies can be damaged from: pressure on the disk, proximity to magnetic or electrical fields, heat, cold, high humidity, fluids, and regular use. Floppies are also slow and don't hold much data. A single high quality scanned image can take up more space than is available on a floppy disk.
If you do plan on saving work to floppy disks be sure to keep back up copies.
