Austin MS Archery Team Places 8th Overall in First State Tournament Appearance

The Austin Middle School archery team represented our school corporation proudly at the Indiana NASP State tournament on Saturday, March 11 in Indianapolis. The tournament held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds hosted the best 2,500 shooters in the state of Indiana. Austin Middle School’s archery team, now in its second season, was invited to participate in the state tournament for the first time this year and sent 22 archers and three coaches to the tournament. The team shot a score of 3,206, a season high for the team, which earned them an 8th place finish out of the best 31 teams in the state. Blaize Sebastian, an AMS 8th grader, was the highest male shooter for the team with a score of 285. Kaitlyn Madden was the top AMS girl with a score of 276.

Austin High School also sent two individual shooters to the state tournament. Luke Weddle, a 9th grade student and Megan Smith, an 11th grader both shot very well.

The team took in the sights of Indianapolis after shooting before returning to the fairgrounds for the awards presentation. The team now hopes to be invited to the National tournament to be held May 11 -13 in Louisville. The team is coached by Tammy Rice, Larry Morgan and Cliff Rice.
