Linear Equations, Inequalities, and Functions

Students will be able to:

1. evaluate an expression by substituting a set of numbers into an equation and filling out a table. They will also evaluate a specific value in function notation.

2. graph a set of ordered pairs. They will be able to identify the domain and range of a relation. They will be able to figure out whether or not the relation is a function.

3. use the distributive property and combine LT (like terms) in order to simplify an expression.

4. add polynomials by distributing the imaginary “1” in front of the parentheses then combining LT.

5. subtract polynomials by distributing the imaginary “1” in front of the parentheses then combining LT.

6. factor a basic algebraic expression by finding the GCF and factoring it out.

7. simplify basic square roots by finding the biggest perfect square factor that divides evenly into the number.

8. solve two-step equations where the first step is add or subtract and the second step is divide.

9. solve two-step equations where the first step is add or subtract and the second step is multiply.

10. solve algebraic proportions by multiplying the diagonal and following the 4 steps to solving a multi-step equation.

11. solve a multi-step equation using the four steps without distributive property.

12. solve a multi-step equation using the four steps with distributive property.

13. solve a variety of absolute value equations by setting up what is inside the absolute value equal to the plus or minus of the solution.

14. know the difference between a Natural Number, Whole Number, Integer, Rational Number, and Irrational Number. They will also be able to write or identify a number in each category.

15. find the slope between two points by using the slope formula.

16. write the equation of a line in slope intercept form given the slope and y-intercept.

17. apply the slope intercept form of a line with a rate and current value problem to write an equation that represents the situation.

18. multiply a monomial times a trinomial by distributing the monomial, which means multiply the coefficients and add the exponents.

19. divide a trinomial by a monomial. They will divide each term by the monomial, which means divide the coefficients and cancel the exponents.

20. multiply two binomials together using the Punnett Square method.

Students will be able to:

1. solve multi-step equations using the 4 steps with answers being integers or rational numbers.

2. solve proportions by multiplying diagonals and using the 4 steps with answers being integers or rational numbers.

3. simplify square roots with variables and exponents by simplifying the square root and dividing the exponent of the variable by 2.

4. write the equation of a line in y = mx + b form given a point and slope of a line by using the slope and point to find b and plugging them into the equation.

5. write the equation of a line in y = mx + b form given two points by finding the slope first, finding b, and plugging them into the equation.

6. solve multi-step inequalities by using the 4 steps, and then they will show the solution on a number line.

7. solve a compound “or” inequality by solving 2 inequalities and showing the solution on a number line.

8. solve a compound “and” inequality by getting the variable in the middle of the inequality signs, and then show solution on a number line.

9. find the x intercept by plugging in zero for y and solving and the y intercept by plugging in zero for x and solving.

10. write an equation of a line given in Ax + By = C form in y = mx + b.

11. graph a line in slope intercept form by graphing the y-intercept, applying the slope, and connecting the dots to make a line.

12. graph an absolute value equation by finding the vertex and two other points by filling in a table.

13. divide monomials by reducing the coefficients and cancelling exponents.

14. multiply a binomial times a trinomial by using a 2 by 3 punnett square.

15. factor a trinomial with no “a” by making and solving a diamond problem and writing in factored form.

16. take a monomial to a power by multiplying exponents and evaluating the result.

17. tell the difference between causation (directly related) and correlation (indirectly related).

18. analyze a graph by determining the independent variable, dependent variable, and writing a brief explanation of the graph.

19. solve a system of equations using substitution.

Students will be able to:

1. solve systems of equations graphically. The equations of the lines will be in standard or slope intercept form. They will also include vertical and horizontal lines.

2. solve system of equations word problems involving money.

3. solve system of equations word problems involving real world situations.

4. graph a system of inequalities. They equations will be in slope intercept form, but then moving to include standard form, vertical lines, and horizontal lines.

5. factor a trinomial completely by first factoring out the GCF and then using the diamond method.

6. find the vertex, line of symmetry, and zeros of a parabola. They will then sketch the parabola.

7. solve quadratic equations using the quadratic formula.

8. set up an inequality involving two variables and find solutions that would make sense and be valid.

9. analyze a problem worked out to find the solution and then describe the error that was made.

10. simplify all types of exponents including negative exponents.

11. solve real world application problems involving quadratic equations. They will have to determine if their solution(s) make sense.

12. write a linear equation to represent a real world situation. They will then sketch a graph and explain what the intercepts and slope mean relative to the problem.

13. write an equation of a line in point-slope form, slope intercept form, and standard form given appropriate information.

14. find the slope, x-intercept, and y-intercept of a linear equation in slope-intercept and standard form.

15. write a quadratic equation in factored form and standard form give the x-intercepts.

16. use the Pythagorean theorem to find the missing side of a triangle. Students may also have to simplify the square root.

17. analyze a chart and give varying probabilities based off of the chart.

18. write an expression for the area and perimeter of a rectangle, square, or triangle.

19. set up a picture, equation, and find the length and width of a figure given random information about that figures perimeter.
