The 11th Annual AHS Talent Show was April 17. Over 150 people watched student acts perform and selected the most talented acts for the People's Choice Award. The performers and audience stood up for a picture together at the end of the show. Proceeds from the show went to fund Austin Recycling Guild's conservation and creativity projects.
The top five acts performed for the high school April 24. Senior Jacob Phillips emceed both shows.
The top five acts were: 1) Oracle, 2) Vocalist duo Kasey Brandenburg and Zach Wooten, 3) band Double Trouble (Lindsay Cornette, Michael Dean Chandler Bowman, Jason Hougland, and Curtis White), 4) Tap dancer Katie Johnson, and 5) Vocalist/pianist Sean Eversole.
The band Oracle (Dalton Church, Chandler Bowman, Brandon Goines, Jake Shadburn) was awarded the People's Choice Award.
Following the showcase, Principal Mr. Sherman Smith introduced the teachers' variety show of ECA (state End of Course Assessment tests)-inspired parodies.
The concept was created by Mathematics teacher Rusty Jones, who appeared along with various stars including Taylor Swift to inspire AHS students to, as one song encouraged. "to smack some Eagle Pride on the ECA."
Another entertainer, who looked quite a bit like M. Smith, rapped about success. A good time was had by all.
This last week, area Sophomores tested all week on the English ECA and the College and Career Readiness Assessment. Algebra Students will be taking the Algebra ECA May 6-8, Biology students take their ECA May 12 and 13. Let's all encourage our kids to do their best and show the world that Austin's/Scott County's best days are before us.
